THE WASTELAND By T.S.Eliot it shows the ruined image of society. The barreness of life and growth of only materialism leads toward the meaninglessness of life.



1) What are your views on the following image after reading 'The Waste Land'? Do you think that Eliot is regressive as compared to Nietzche's views? or Has Eliot achieved universality of thought by recalling mytho-historical answer to the contemporary malaise?

Eliot stands for Regressive, backward looking as it tries to find answers of contemporary malaise in Upanishad, Buddhism and Christianity.

On the other side Nietzche stands for progressvie and forward looking, in giving solution to the problem of contemporary crises in faith and self.

In compared to Neitzche's thought, yes Eliot is regressive but it doesn't mean that he only rises question on his contemporary society, he also tries to give way of solution rather than the answers. Cycle of time always moving and when History start repeating one must have to look back and try to learn that what are mistakes our ancestor did and now when time comes to us how we will deal with it?
It is certain and right that new questions's answer we couldn't find in Upanishad, Buddhism and christinity but the way of living,understanding towards any situation one can devlop.
So we can conclude that it is also right that problems of contemporary crisis' solution is in faith and self but, the level of faith and understanding of self must be necessary. It comes from reading of mytho-historical and religious thought. Eliot achived that unversality of thought.

No, I'm not agree with Eliot's view that 'Salvation of man lies in the preservation of the cultural tradition' and supression or contol over desire lead toward any better life. In stend of that it's better to giving free vent to desires.


For proving this point i want to give example of one letter's fragment by Osho.

1.The Fire sermon
The fire and sermon is name of sermon given by Buddha. Gayasisa is the place where buddha prech the fire sermon about achieving libration from suffering through detachment from the five senses and mind, by that Eliot also wants to convey a message tp stay detached from all body and sense's desire.


2.What the Thunder said
There is refrence pf Upanishad in this Prajapti
Spoke in thunder 'aakashvani' to devotees are pointed out the way of salvation. Eliot shows the way of spiritual re-birth on the basis of wisdom of India.

The road winding above among the mountains"


Climbing a painful mountain pass through pain and agony and after that you reach destination the feeling of Air is Shantih.


3.River Ganga and Himalaya
Eliot refers to Wisdom of India for spiritual salvation of modern humanity. Holly river Ganga known for its purity and also for purification , and Himalaya is known for spirituality and peace.

5.Shantih Mantra
Path pf knowldge is always painful and peace comes after knowing something that is the real Shantih. Thus Eliot ends Wasteland with hope.

Movie Review : Modern Times

This blog is par of my academic activity.

As A.C.Ward says in Morden Literature, 'First fifty years of twentieth century the human race moved through a remarkable series of upheavals than during perhaps fifty generation in the past' It means growth of physical world and material progress can seen as Scientific revolution. Movie Morden Times is like pages of history, shows us real face of America.
Ironically film opens with a note that a story about the industry, individual initiative and the crusade of humanity in the pursuit of happiness”, and immediately after the scene of sheeps turn into workers emerging from a subway.

Without any dialogue , a mum draws the perfact picture of last man's condition of that era. Clock is also symbol of industrilization that man is in under control of time, we can see in movie that charlie is working constalntly in rhythm for hours, and machine of automatic feeding is also symbol of saving time, that one can take lunch without interrupt their work.


In prision, charlies shows us the condition of prisoners, how they are living in dispcline but some of them can not escape from drug powder. Strike in mill is also a symbol of unemployment.

When charlie is thrown out on to the street for his manic behaviour , he then meets a young homelss and orphened girl, and tries to build a home with her.Then their struggle for better life till end, shows us that in place of human basic need home food and cloth is necssary.


Movie ends with hope on road of happiness, utterly last frame is not as passimistic as movie. Mountain and scene of dawn sign of better tomorrow and beyond mountain better world for them.

Movie Review :The Great Dictator

We watched film The Great Dictator at the Department of English, MKBU as part of our background study of Modern literature. The Great Dictator is a 1940 American Political satire Comedy drama silent film and film maker well into the period of sound film. It was his first talking film. Film is  Written, Directed, Produced and scored by Charlie Chaplin. Film controversial condemnation of Adolf Hitler, fascism and the Nazis so, first question raised in our mind about Fascist, who were they and what they were doing? Fascist believe that liberal democracy  is obsolete and they regard the complete mobilization of society under a totalitarian. One party state as necessary to prepare a nation for armed conflict and to respond effectively to economic difficulties.


Charlie plays double roles: Persecuted Jewish Barber and Ruthless Fascist Dictator. Jewish barber fighting for nation Tomania, unknowingly he saves life of wounded pilot but, however their plane crushes and twenty years later He return to his previous  profession as barber in the Ghetto. Where he falls in love with his neighbor Hannah. In search of better and peaceful life they struggle a lot. Meanwhile Hynkel another role of Charlie tries to finance his ever growing military forces by borrowing money from Jewish barber. In all that matter both the character because of same look create a glitch.


Barber and Schultz,  escaping from the camp in stolen uniforms, dressed as Hynkel, arrive at the Osterlich frontier, where a huge victory-parade is waiting to be addressed by Hynkel. The real Hynkel is mistaken for the Barber while out duck hunting in civilian clothes and is knocked out and taken to the camp. Schultz tells the Barber to go to the platform and impersonate Hynkel, as the only way to save their lives once they reach Osterlich's capital. The Barber has never given a public speech in his life, but he has no other choice.(Wikipedia) and he tries to give speech. It is the great message we admire him for that.

You, the people, have the power to make this life free and beautiful, to make this life a wonderful adventure.


Then – in the name of democracy – let us use that power – let us all unite. Let us fight for a new world – a decent world that will give men a chance to work – that will give youth a future and old age a security. By the promise of these things, brutes have risen to power. But they lie! They do not fulfill that promise. They never will!


Dictators free themselves but they enslave the people! Now let us fight to fulfill that promise! Let us fight to free the world – to do away with national barriers – to do away with greed, with hate and intolerance. Let us fight for a world of reason, a world where science and progress will lead to all men’s happiness. Soldiers! in the name of democracy, let us all unite !


The soul of man has been given wings, and at last he is beginning to fly. He is flying into the rainbow – into the light of hope, into the future, the glorious future that belongs to you, to me, and to all of us.






This message and film out at such a time it brought light to painful period of darkness and actually gives a huge message of peace ironically in the end of speech. It seems strong connection with Gandhian idea of non-violence and peace.

Some of Hitler's earliest opponents, including anti-Franco American volunteers in the Spanish Civil War, were later seen as "premature antifascists"; by fighting against fascism when Hitler was still considered an ally, they raised suspicion that they might be communists. "The Great Dictator" ended with a long speech denouncing dictatorships, and extolling democracy and individual freedoms. This sounded to the left like bedrock American values, but to some on the right, it sounded pinko.

Aishwaryam Youth Festival 2018 Maharaja Krishnakumarsinhji Bhavnagar University.

Maharaja Krishnakumarsinhji Bhavnagar University has celebrated the Aishwaryam youth festival of three days 26th, 27th, and 28th October. This whole festival of three days is hosted by Takshashila institute of commerce and Science collage. The whole university was spangling with lights. This festival is for young people. This is not only for watching. This festival let young generation show their talents through various competitions. In which they include every type of talents like writing, singing, dancing, drawing, acting, playing instruments and many things. It includes modern and folk both the theme. I was present in some of the events which here I am trying to look critically towards it.



I attended two competition. One Act play and Mime.

↝One Act Plays :

I have seen three plays and only starting of last play. The participants have 30 minutes to perform their play. The plays which I have seen has names like “Sikka Ni Triji Baju” (Third side of the coin) which has theme of third gender, second one is “Aur Mujhe Fakr Hai” (And I am proud of it) which has theme of nationalism, third one is “Papan Vache Dariyo” (Sea between the lashes) which has theme on the life of a fisherman. Three of them are very well performed. Acting was very good by all the actors. We can feel the catharsis during play.

It seems the plays are following the traditional way of plays in which they have rising action, falling action and happy ending. It is like Aristotle’s Poetics. The play “Sikka Ni Triji Baju” can be view from the perspective of cultural studies as it includes the society and the dilemma and misery of third gender. In the play family even father don’t want his baby who is eunuch. The mother struggles and fight for equal right of the baby and she win. These types of play shows mirror to our society and also gives message to change the stereotypes. The performance was very good.

Mime :

I participated in solo mime. I presented solo mime which dealt with Rape in India. I alone performed two characters simultaneously. The central character of my mime was any common girl who has been facing sexual harrassment in India. 

How a teacher and student should be?

A Masked Lady

A lady named Nancy who used to go in party every night. She attracts different man every night. The only reason behind it was that she was lonely lady without her husband. Her husband is a navy man.  Most of the time he remains outside. He hardly gets time to come at home. So here the lady dressed herself every night, with different look. She used to wear mask on her face.  Sometimes smiling sometime upset. She didn’t get love from her husband that’s why she remains in search for happiness.

She was harassed by the tones of society. Society never likes a characterless lady; they can tolerate characterless man but not women. But Nancy never get affected by these all things. She lives in her own way. She just celebrates her freedom.

A lonely lady always needs someone who take care of her. Nancy by decorating herself every night used to seduced man to satisfy her sexual desire.
Whenever a woman doesn’t get love from her husband she tries to make relationship with other man. Sometimes Nancy badly miss her husband that time she wears a mask of upset face, but still she cannot stop to go in party. She never thinks about her life without it. In a way this becomes her routine.
Moral: Love and care is a basic desire of every human being.
how a woman used to decorate herself to attract different men. And how she feels lonely without her husband’s support.
