Thinking activity on T S Eliot

Eliot gives enough wait upon tradition. Whatever we have today, it has connection with past. We have today something accordingly that what we had yesterday. this day is outcome of that process. so we cannot cut down the strings of past. to prove this he also gave some quotes and he justified points with examples.

There is deeper relationship between tradition and individual talent. tradition moves according to individuals. it gets turn into its flow for this kind of individual talents.

there is a proverb in Gujarati which perfectly goes with this quote.

तेजी ने टकोर ने गधेडा ने डफण़ा |

it also can be compared with futility of soil. if the soil is fertile, the sids which are gone unknowingly will also give sweet fruits and shelter. But dry soil. if we provide it best source of sids and manure, than even it is of no use.

The process which is done in mind is radher more important for a reader than poet. Because people are same but what we have by them (poetry) is the thing by which he differs. And, while writing he might feel the sensation but at the same time he may not apply same thing in his practical life. We have numbers of director n actor who are different in real life. so when a person creats something, he no longer remain same person, he becomes artist. we should never search an artist in person and that man in an artist.

Theory of depersonalization is very higher kind of philosophy in which Eliot talks that one should detach himself from the work of art and than one can have sound judgment of any particular text.

Theory of Depersonalization is the thing on which one can write critique. Because it is too ideal to be followed.

Thinking activity of I A Richards

↝ Four Kinds of Meaning:
A poet writes to communicate, and language is the means of that communication.
Language is made of words and hence a study of words is all important if we are to
understand the meaning of a work of art. According to I.A. Richard, words carry four
kinds of meaning or to be more precise, the total meaning of a word depends upon four
factors, i.e. sense, feeling, tone and intention.

1. Sense is what is said, or the ‘items’ referred to by a writer.

2. Feeling refers to emotions, emotional attitudes, will, desire, pleasure, displeasure and the
rest. When we say something we have a feeling about it, “an attitude towards it, some
special direction, bias or accentuation of interest towards it, some personal flavour or
colouring of feeling”. Words express “these feelings, these nuances of interest”.

3. Tone is the writer’s attitude to his readers or audience. The use of language is
determined by the writer’s ‘recognition’ of his relation to his readers.

4. Intention is the writer’s aim, which may be conscious or unconscious. It refers to the
effect that he tries to produce. This purpose modifies the expression. It controls the
emphasis, shapes the arrangement, or draws attention to something of importance.

Analysis of a Bollywood song according to I.A.Richards Figurative Language

Analysis of a Bollywood song Mile ho Tum Humko according to I.A.Richard’s Figurative Language-

Mile Ho Tum Lyrics-
Mile ho tum humko
Bade naseebon se
Churaya hai maine
Kismat ki lakeeron se
Teri mohabbat se saanse mili hai
Sada rehna dil mein kareeb hoke
Mile ho tum humko
Bade naseebon se
Churaya hai maine
Kismat ki lakeeron se
Teri chahaton mein kitna tadpe hain
Sawan bhi kitne tujh bin barse hain
Zindagi meri sari jo bhi kami thi
Tere aa jaane se ab nahi rahi
Sada hi rehna tum
Mere kareeb ho ke
Churaya hai maine
Kismat ki lakeeron se
Baahon mein teri ab yaara jannat hai
Maangi khuda se tu wo mannat hai
Teri wafa ka sahara mila hai
Teri hi wajah se ab main zinda hoon
Teri mohabbat se zara ameer hoke
Churaya hai maine kismat ki lakeero se
Mile ho tum humko
Bade naseebon se
Churaya hai maine
Kismat ki lakeeron se
Teri mohabbat se saanse mili hai
Sada rehna dil mein kareeb hoke

Through these lines the lover says that he has got his beloved through much serendipity and he has stolen her from fate and will do anything to keep her with him. And also says that because of his beloved’s love he has got breath because of her love so he says her to always near his heart.

Teri chahaton mein kitna tadpe hain
Sawan bhi kitne tujh bin barse hain
Zindagi meri sari jo bhi kami thi
Tere aa jaane se ab nahi rahi
Through these lines he says how he was tormented in her love and whatever was astray in his life now those got filled with her love in his life.

Sada hi rehna tum
Mere kareeb ho ke
Churaya hai maine
Kismat ki lakeeron se
Baahon mein teri ab yaara jannat hai
Maangi khuda se tu wo mannat hai
Teri wafa ka sahara mila hai

Here he asks his beloved to be always with him as he has stolen her from fate. He says that he finds Heaven in the arms of his beloved and he also says that she is the desire for which he always prayed to God. He says that when he has got the support of his beloved’s loyalty for that he is alive and also says that he has become a bit rich after he got his love.
PROBLEMS WHILE READING –
è How one can steal anyone going against his or her fate and how one can get breath by one’s love?

è How can love make one’s life fulfilled and how is it possible that a life becomes disciplined?

è How can one find Heaven in one’s arms as a human being is not God.

è How can one trust their partner and how does he becomes rich after he got his love?
